In the vault of old but good articles, I found the following one written in 2012 by Karen Klein and published by the online version of BloombergBusinessweek:
This article reports on the expected growth of the translation industry in the United States over the coming years as a result of increased population diversity, and accentuates a growing need for more linguistic professionals. While the report was written in 2012, the concepts within remain relevant both now and for years to come. This is especially important as we experience the rapid expansion of technology being used in business and everyday life. Although machine translation comes nowhere near the language and cultural clarity of human translation, embracing technology to complement and enhance the translation process can be of great benefit to translators.
